In aikido, a Japanese martial art without competitions, an attacker's force is received, redirected and returned without any intent to injure, so little physical strength is needed. Classes begin with a greeting and a short meditation, move on to an aikido warm-up and breakfall practice, and then turn to technique, with occasional multi-hour seminars. Beginners can try a session before joining, and the dojo opens on Monday and Thursday evenings.
