The hall traces its identity to IL Norrøna, a club founded in 1889 with traditions in handball, athletics and gymnastics. After wartime destruction, members rebuilt the facility and gave it its present name; a further rehabilitation followed in 1979. Its position beside Bergenhus and Vikinghallen places it in one of central Bergen's oldest organised-sport settings.
