Gyms with childcare

A childcare room at a gym is unusual in Sweden, and the confirmed ones are independent clubs spread over a handful of towns: Malmö, Kävlinge and Ängelholm in Skåne, Handen near Stockholm, Vårgårda in Västergötland and Luleå in the far north. Every club on the list runs group classes and takes bookings, so a parent can plan a class around the supervised hours.

Gyms with childcare in Sweden

Find one of the few gyms with a play room, and check its hours before you go.

Childcare is rare at Swedish gyms, and the few that confirm it are spread from Handen south of Stockholm and Kävlinge in Skåne to Vårgårda, Ängelholm and Luleå, mostly at independent clubs.

Where a gym has a play room it usually runs at set times, often linked to group classes. Check the age range, whether the room must be booked, whether a parent has to stay in the building and whether it costs extra.

What to know about gyms with childcare in Sweden

What differs from one gym to the next, and what to check before you sign up.

Swedish gyms that offer childcare usually call it barnpassning and run it at set hours, often in the morning, with a limit on the child's age and on the length of the stay. You usually stay in the building, and booking ahead is sensible. Do not confuse it with förskola, the preschool system, which is a separate service with its own queue and rules.

Tips

  • Look for the word barnpassning in the club service list.
  • Ask for the hours and the age limit, as each club sets its own.
  • Book a place before you go, and expect to stay in the building.
